Since I haven't been posting much on this blog lately, here's a little example of what I'm doing nowadays at school (Centre NAD), which has been keeping me pretty busy and will continue to do so for the next couple of weeks.
We've started an awesome 5 week class focused on texturing 3D objects, and for this first assignment we were given a very basic pencil shape to texture. This is what I came up with. I'm very happy to say, I had no idea how I'd feel about texturing as I had never tried it before, but as it turns out, it's freaking awesome. Brings me back to my good old days creating detailed, textured miniatures for stop-motion.
Out of nostalgia I went ahead and pulled out an old picture from 2010 I had taken during the process of constructing the sets and props for my graduating film at Concordia, Remembering How to Smile. One of the things I had built to furnish the bedroom of my main character was some tiny 2cm pencils which I had made out of toothpicks. 2 years ago I was playing with toothpicks and paint, and now I'm playing with pixels and a stylus. Though the two techniques are miles apart, the passion for making things feel as tactile and tangible as possible remains, and it's a relief for me to see that I can feel it while working on the computer as well.
